Yorktown Color Guard
What it is: Color guard, also referred to as the “sport of the arts” performs in the fall with the marching band and independently in the winter. Color guard has evolved over the years into an activity that combines dance, equipment and performance. It is used to bring music to life. Modern color guard uses flags of many sizes, sabres, rifles and sometimes other varying equipment. It also uses a mix of ballet, jazz, modern and contemporary modern dance.
Where it is found: Color guards can be found in colleges, universities, high schools, middle schools and independent drum corps and guards across the country. There are color guard associations active all over the country. Virginia is within the Alantic Indoor Association(AIA). There are also active guard associations all over the world. WGI and DCI are two of the most popular in the US.

Tuesday and Wednesday's 6 - 9 pm and Saturdays 8am - noon. There is a possiblility of having optional Thursday rehearsals. There is a mandatory pre-band camp and band camp. Details for all to follow.

Congratulations to the 2009 Winter Guard on your outstanding achievement this season. All the staff are extremely proud of you and we hope that you are proud of yourselves as well. It has been an amazing season and we hope that you all enjoying the great experience. Take the time between this season and next season to relax and enjoy the time off. Auditions for Fall Guard will be held towards either the middle or end of May. More details to come.
To the seniors Rachel, Molly, Travis and Mel we will miss you much next year and hope that your senior year was a blast and something you will never forget.
