| Color Guard and Drumline AIA Champions! |
|
Dear Yorktown Band Members, Families, and Friends -
I am pleased to announce the results of a highly successful season for the Yorktown Indoor Color Guard and Drumline. After months filled with rehearsals, competitions, snow cancellations, and lots of hard work, both groups arrived at the culmination of their season this weekend in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Both groups are members of the Atlantic Indoor Association, a scholastic performance circuit with over 300 member schools in Virginia and North Carolina, and one of the largest circuits in the nation. This weekend's AIA Championships brought together the best groups from across the highly-competitive circuits.
In 2009, Yorktown's Guard won their division and were promoted by the judges to a more difficult category, despite graduating a large number of talented seniors. The 2010 ensemble accepted the challenge and quickly charged to the top of their new division with their show, "How We Used To Be." Looking to repeat as champions in a new division, the guard began by finishing the qualifying round in first place. The talented guard members then performed to an even higher level in the Championship round, winning the AIA Scholastic A3 division handily.
Yorktown's Drumline almost achieved similar success in 2009, placing second by one-tenth of a point. With a strong returning core of players and an exciting show, the 2010 Drumline looked to improve on last year's finish. The Drumline's 2010 show, "Boiling Point: From Ice to Steam," was very well received by judges, spectators, and fellow competitors all season. This weekend's qualifying round saw the Drumline earn their highest score ever, catapulting the line ahead of another ensemble that had outscored them all season. Championship round brought another fantastic performance, earning the Yorktown Drumline their first-ever AIA Championship in the Scholastic A Division.
In addition to bringing home some serious hardware, a Yorktown student was given an incredible honor. Senior snare drummer and ensemble captain Alan Brody was awarded a prestigious Atlantic Indoor Association scholarship on the basis of his performance and dedication to his ensemble.
Congratulations to these all of these fine Yorktown performers on not just an incredible weekend, but also a historic moment in the program's history.
