Hello Band Families!
Welcome again to the 2023-2024 school year for our Yorktown Band students. We’ve already kicked off the marching season with a successful return band camp at Mercersburg Academy and our first (wet) football game appearance on Friday night. Thanks to all that helped out and for the flexibility with the weather. There are lots more ways to volunteer below including a special urgent need for the first day of school.

First Day of School Breakfast
The 10-12th grade marching band members traditionally play for the freshmen students as they enter the building on their first day of high school. Given that the band students who play don’t actually need to be at class until much later, the boosters provide breakfast for those who play. We have an urgent need for food donations and volunteers to help out on the first day. Sign up here!
Pizza Night / Thursday Night Football
We have TWO Thursday night football games this year and our first is coming up on August 31. The band boosters are partnering with Deli Italiano to provide dinner for the marching band at school. Please sign up to donate additional items and help serve. We’ll also need our typical cadre of volunteers to help with various tasks at the game (sign up coming soon). It’s a great way to get to know other band parents and watch the show develop.
Concessions
Speaking of game nights – we’re teaming up with the Yorktown Athletics Boosters to provide concessions support for Varsity, JV, and Freshman football games. In exchange for our help, the band boosters will receive a share of the profits corresponding to the amount of volunteers we have. Please consider signing up for a game (especially on nights when the band isn’t playing). Funds raised will go to support the FULL band program. Sign up today and put in the comments that you are a band volunteer.
Show Your Band Spirit
We’re continuing to sell YHS Band merchandise (including special guard logos) in our online store. Delivery takes several weeks to pick out your favorites today. If you want to help choose merchandise for the store or have ideas for more items, please contact us!
Band Day
Band Day is September 30! This is our biggest fundraiser of the year and the entire band program participates. For those who are new, during band day our kids head out into the community to ask for donations for the program. Funds are used for clinicians, travel costs, and more. It takes an army of parent volunteers to drive students and we hope you’ll be able to help too. Mark your calendar and watch for more details coming soon!
There will be lots more to come. September and October are busy months. We’ll be in touch with lots more opportunities to help out as well as to get together to discuss the best ways to support our students.
