The Tri-M Music Honor Society is a National Honor Society designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, & to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership.

Purpose

Provide an appropriate method for recognizing the musical achievements of members.

  • Strengthen our school’s music program.
  • Help our members reach their full musical potential.
  • Motivate and recognize members’ musical & personal achievements, credits, & grades.
  • Encourage our members to work together toward the same goal.
  • Inspire and challenge our members.
  • Focus public attention on our school’s music program through community service.

Membership Requirements

  • Must have been enrolled in a high school music ensemble/class for at least 1 year, and must be currently enrolled in a music course. (only 10th-12th graders are eligible to join)
  • Must have maintained in the previous semester an A average in music, and B average in other academic areas.
  • Must be in good standing with the music department at YHS and the school as a whole.
  • Students are required to complete 10 hours of service during the course of the school year.  Members of United Sound can count up to 7 of those volunteer hours towards this requirement. 
  • Must attend monthly meetings (approx. 30 mins) unless you have a pre-excused absence.

How Do You Apply?

Submit the online application.  You will be asked to provide a phone number as contact information and respond with a short statement about why you would like to join.  You will also have to provide a transcript/proof of academic eligibility.  The application deadline for the 2023-2024 school year is October 2, 2023.

To be accepted as a member, you must complete each of the membership requirements.
