Thank you all for your patience as we recover from our water-logged experience at Mercersburg Academy. Even under the challenging circumstances, the Marching Band students and chaperones alike stayed focused and in good spirits. We are so thankful to everyone who made band camp a success! This week’s update includes “save the date” information to help prepare for the beginning of the school year.

Uniform pieces needed for Concert Bands and Marching Band
Here’s what your student will need, if they don’t have them already:
Marching Band: Long black socks. Other uniform needs, such as Y-Band uniforms (worn underneath the marching uniform) and marching shoes (MTXs) will be purchased/provided through Mr. Witkowski.
Concert Bands: Students who wear tuxedos in Concert Band and Wind Ensemble need long black socks, black dress shoes, tuxedo shirt, and black bowtie. Students who wear dresses need black dress shoes.
Any students who missed Marching Band fittings this week will be fitted during rehearsal next week.
September 4: Band Family meeting hosted by the Band Boosters and tentative preview performance
The Band Boosters will host an informational meeting to help all families in the band program start the year off right. The tentative agenda is below. Stay tuned for the exact time and location of the meeting at YHS.

September 6: First home football game
With football season kicking off, we will need parent volunteers at the games to assist with things like prop movements, carrying the first-aid kit, working concessions, etc. Save the date and keep an eye out for the Sign-up Genius! If you are unable to volunteer, please consider supporting the band and the football team by filling the stands.
September 7: Marching Band mini-camp and 9/11 race
Save the date and keep an eye out for more information in Mr. Witkowski’s band updates. Students will need to pack a lunch and water bottle for this activity.
September 14: Band Day fundraiser
On September 14th, ALL band students participate in Band Day, our biggest fundraiser of the year! The quality of the band program depends greatly on the generosity of our community, so the students will walk through designated neighborhoods to talk about the program and ask for donations. Please consider signing up to assist as a driver and/or to bring breakfast food for the students that morning. Keep an eye out for the Sign-up Genius!
