Dear Band Families,
I’d like to start with a big THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who have pitched in during the past week! In the longer marathon of this month, we were in a sprint with props building and improvements, assistance before and after Marching Band rehearsals, and attire fittings for the Concert and Wind Ensemble members. We recognize all the time volunteers are giving to help make the band program successful, and we can’t thank you enough!
We still have a lot of volunteer needs as we wrap up the final two weeks of Marching Band season, including volunteers needed for Senior Reception – a ceremony before the final home football game recognizing the accomplishments of senior Marching Band and Color Guard students. If you are the family of a senior Marching Band or Color Guard student and haven’t received the ceremony sign-up form, please send an email to YorktownBandArlington@gmail.com.

TOMORROW: Marching Band performance at Oakton Classic
We are excited to take the Marching Band show, Let it Be, to the Oakton Classic! See the schedule here. Parent volunteers, you will receive an email with some additional reporting/schedule information. Student report time for those with props responsibilities is probably shifting to 9:30a, so please keep an eye out for an update from Mr. Witkowski. We still have volunteer slots available and will need every bit of help we can get! Please sign up here to help.
Marching Band members: Please pack water bottles, snacks, and sunblock! You also need to pack lunch and snacks for the day. Make sure you have your appropriate under uniform pieces (for marchers, this is your Y-Band uniform, long socks, and MTXs) in addition to the rest of your uniform.
TOMORROW and future: Marching Band props for stadium rehearsals
NOTE: This request includes the rehearsal at YHS before departing for the Oakton Classic – parents needed by NLT 9:30a. The full Marching Band show is on the field, which means props are being used during rehearsals. Rehearsals are already long, and the students have other equipment and clean-up responsibilities, so it would be great if you could spare 30 minutes of your time before or after rehearsal to help construct and move the props to and from the field. No experience necessary! Please sign up here if you can help.
October 23 and 25: Help Needed – Concert attire fittings
Before you know it, it will be concert season! We need help fitting the concert and wind ensemble students for their concert attire (dresses and tuxedos). No experience necessary! Please sign up here to help.
October 23: Band parent social at Westover Beer Garden
We’re all friends here 🙂 Come hang out with other band parents at the Westover Beer Garden on October 23rd, between 5:00-7:00p, and get to know each other a little better. There will be Band Booster volunteers in attendance, if you want to ask any questions about the program in a more informal setting. Don’t have questions? That’s OK – come relax over a cold beverage! We hope to see you there!
October 24: Help needed – APS Marching Band Showcase
If the away competitions have been too hard to get to, come out to see the show at Wakefield HS at the APS Marching Band Showcase! It will take place the evening after school, and it’s just around the corner. See the schedule here. Please sign up here to help.
October 26: Help needed – Double event! Competition and Assessment
This is going to be a long day, and we’ll need a lot of parent volunteers to help out! The volunteer positions have been split into two groups for the separate events in case you can help with one and not the other. This is also one of the last opportunities to get experience with the on-field show work with senior parents so they can show you the ropes for next year! Please sign up here to help. See the schedule for the day here.
Marching Band members: Please pack water bottles, snacks, and sunblock! You also need to pack lunch and snacks for the day. Bring money to purchase dinner. Make sure you have your appropriate under uniform pieces (for marchers, this is your Y-Band uniform, long socks, and MTXs) in addition to the rest of your uniform.
November 2: Help needed – Senior Reception for Marching Band and Color Guard
Senior Reception for the Class of 2025 band members and their families will take place before the last home football game on Saturday, November 2. We are looking for a few volunteers to bring items as well as to help with set-up (2:00-3:00 pm) and clean-up (4:00-5:00 pm). Please visit the Sign-up Genius to see what’s needed. For questions, contact Cara Voth cara.voth@gmail.com or Carrie Dennis carriedennis@gmail.com. Let’s make this a special occasion for our seniors and their parents.
We’re looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming band events! Go Band!!
