Dear Band Families,

Congratulations to the Marching Band for taking 1st place for Guard, 2nd place overall, and being awarded Best Music at the Oakton Classic this past Saturday!  It was also great seeing several band parents at the band social on Wednesday.  Last night, the APS Marching Band Showcase was a resounding success – what a great way to demonstrate the strength of the band programs in Arlington County!

As we approach the end of Marching Band season, please note that we still have a lot of volunteer needs, especially as parents/guardians/family members of seniors will be participating in end-of-season activities and will be unable to volunteer.  In particular, we still urgently need volunteer help for the two events this coming Saturday.  If you can’t do both, we are happy to have your help at either of the events.  Please sign up here.

TOMORROW:  Help needed – Double event!  Competition and Assessment

We are excited to take the Marching Band show, Let it Be, to the VBODA Assessment at Liberty HS in Bealeton, VA, followed by the VMBC Freedom Showcase in Chantilly, VA!  See the schedule here.  We still have volunteer slots available and will need every bit of help we can get!  Please sign up here to help.  Parent volunteers  will receive an email with some additional reporting/schedule information.  Student report time is 9:15/9:30a, depending on responsibilities.

Marching Band members:  Please pack water bottles, snacks, and sunblock!  You also need to pack lunch and snacks for the day.  Bring money to purchase dinner.  Make sure you have your appropriate under uniform pieces (for marchers, this is your Y-Band uniform, long socks, and MTXs) in addition to the rest of your uniform.

October 30:  Marching Band props for stadium rehearsal

The full Marching Band show is on the field, which means props are being used during rehearsals.  Rehearsals are already long, and the students have other equipment and clean-up responsibilities, so it would be great if you could spare 30 minutes of your time before or after rehearsal to help construct and move the props to and from the field.  No experience necessary!  Please sign up here if you can help.

November 2:  Help needed – Senior Reception for Marching Band and Color Guard

Senior Reception for the Class of 2025 band members and their families will take place before the last home football game on Saturday, November 2.  Senior students will report at 2:00 for individual portraits, and the reception begins at 3:00p.  Game kick-off is at 5:00p.  We are looking for a few volunteers to bring items as well as to help with set-up (2:00-3:00 pm) and clean-up (4:00-5:00 pm).  Please visit the Sign-up Genius to see what’s needed.  For questions, contact Cara Voth cara.voth@gmail.com or Carrie Dennis carriedennis@gmail.com.  Let’s make this a special occasion for our seniors and their parents.

November 6:  Restaurant fundraiser at Pupatella Pizzeria

Looking for a delicious meal before attending the Chamber concert?  Head on over to Pupatella Pizzeria!  Pupatella is generously donating 20% of proceeds to the YHS band program from purchases made by phone, in restaurant, and through the website.  This offer is not valid on orders placed through third-party delivery apps.  Although this fundraiser is benefitting all YHS bands, before placing your order, please let them know you are supporting the Yorktown High School Marching Band so the restaurant can keep track of the purchases.  This fundraiser will run from 11:30a – 9:00p.

Get the word out!  Social media promotion for the band programs

Social media allows us to share the value the band program gives to our students and the community.  Now we need your help!  We are all savvy – more views on a feed is a better opportunity to gain support from our local business sponsors.  You can help us attract more corporate support by following @yorktownbands and @yorktowncolorguard on Instagram. Please also share posts you see in the Yorktown HS Parents Facebook group.

Not a social media person?  Share the resources you get in this newsletter with an “old fashioned” email.   Speaking of value – ICYMI  https://www.instagram.com/reel/DBcya7LR3ur/?igsh=bWE5c2NsZm9vbHk4

Have a great weekend!  Go Band!!
