Dear Band Families,

We are still plugging along in our very successful band programs!  Please see below for concert and competition dates.  We’d love to fill the seats to support our awesome YHS students!  Another way to support is spreading the word about performances and fundraisers, so feel free to share the information widely on social media and throughout the community.

For anyone going on the spring trip, you should have received an email with final payment information.  If you didn’t receive the email, please send an email to YorktownBandArlington@gmail.com so you can be added to the spring trip distribution list.  Reminder – Registration through the travel company needs to be completed quickly, so please submit as soon as possible.

URGENT – Spring Trip Registration through Kaleidoscope by NLT March 5th
If you have made at least one payment for the spring trip, you have been counted as an attendee and need to register for the trip.  Please follow the instructions in this PDF very carefully.  Students should be registered for the Quad Package, and Chaperones should register for the Double Package.  There should only be a charge at the end if you opt in to the trip insurance (not recommended).  All trip payments will be made through checks to the school in the same manner as the original deposit and second payment.  You will also receive trip-specific emails as the trip gets closer.

March 4 – Wind Ensemble Concert at YHS, 7:00pm – Concessions help needed
Come support the Wind Ensemble and musicians from Swanson and Williamsburg Middle Schools at the concert this Tuesday!  The concert starts at 7:00pm (students report at 6:30), and we are hoping to have a small concessions table available for folks to enjoy snacks and drinks before the show and during intermission.  Please sign up here to help.

March 5 – Restaurant Night fundraiser at Lebanese Taverna (Westover and Market locations)
The Yorktown Music Department (Choir, Band, Orchestra) is benefitting from a fundraiser at Lebanese Taverna on March 5th.  Lebanese Taverna will generously donate 20% of proceeds to the Music Department when you present this flyer while dining in, or when you enter YHSMUSIC in the notes section when placing an order online.  Thank you for your support, and thank you in advance for helping spread the word!

March 8 and 22 – AIP and Winterguard away performances
Can’t get enough of the awesome YHS AIP and Winterguard performances?!  Head over to Governor Thomas Johnson HS (1501 N Market St #4430, Frederick, MD) on March 8th to see AIP (2:30p) and Winterguard (7:15p) perform.  Tickets are available at the door.  Can’t get it on the schedule?  No problem – you can also support AIP and Winterguard at Mt. Vernon HS on March 22nd (performance times pending).

March 27 – APS Indoor Showcase at YHS, 7:00pm
It’s the best APS has to offer!  Come see Arlington Indoor Percussion and all APS Winterguard performances in one place!  We know it can be hard to travel for the away performances, so we’re bringing them to you.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Help Needed – Concessions Volunteers for Anything Goes
We have an arrangement with the wonderful Theatre Arts Parents (TAP – Theatre Boosters) to help staff the concessions table during the spring musical, Anything Goes, to earn some of the profit in support of the band programs.  We are allotted one slot per show, and we still need volunteers for the April 5th matinee and evening performances.  If you are willing to fill the band spot during either of those performances, please send an email to YorktownBandArlington@gmail.com.

Volunteers needed: Boosters desperately need your help!
While it may seem like the end of the school year is still far off, it’s important to backfill volunteer positions in advance of departures so new volunteers can learn the ropes.  We have A LOT of volunteer positions that will be vacated by senior parents (or are already vacant), so please reach out if you are interested in taking on a role next year.  Information on each position can be provided, and we will put you in contact with the current volunteer in order to ensure a smooth transition. 

Vacancies for next year include:

Executive Board Positions:  President, Vice President, Fundraising Chairperson, Uniform Chairperson, Guard Coordinator

Non-Board Positions:  Equipment and Transportation Manager, Asst. Equipment and Transportation Manager, Football Snack Bar Liaison, PTA Communications Liaison, Concert Attire, Concert Concessions, Props Designer/Builder, Middle School Events Liaison, Practice-A-Thon Co-Coordinator, Spring Trip Coordinators, Asst. Save the Dates – Marching Band Camp August 3 – 8, 2025
Marching Band Camp will be here before you know it!  Anyone participating in Marching Band is required to attend camp, so please hold the dates and schedule summer vacations accordingly.
