Director’s Notes:
The marching band season is entering the home stretch. Attendance is critical and students should do everything in their power to stay healthy: consistently get a good night’s sleep, stay well-hydrated, wash hands frequently.
Students who scored less than 18/21 on the Key Signatures and Scales formative assessment can re-take it after receiving remediation. Remediation for Concert Band and Wind Ensemble students is being offered on Thursday during Patriot Period.

Yorktown Jazz Ensemble Auditions
Audition information and materials are now available for the Yorktown Big Band. Audition dates are Monday, October 6, for the rhythm section, and Monday, October 27, for winds. Information about reserving an audition time is in the linked materials.

Concert Attire
Students in the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble will be sized and fitted for concert attire beginning Friday, October 17. Students choose between the dress and tuxedo options. For performances, students who choose the dress must provide their own black dress shoes. Students who choose the tuxedo option must provide their own tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, black socks and black shoes (MTXs are acceptable). Parents/caretakers should discuss any expectations regarding the attire choice with their students. 

Be on the lookout for additional concert attire information from our Yorktown Band Boosters volunteers via Cut Time. Concert attire is stored at the students’ homes. Students will bring their concert attire home with them after they are fitted. If alterations are needed, uniforms should be back on November 5 for students to retrieve. 

Band Costs
Costs are explained in this document. Costs can be paid through SCO or via check to Yorktown High School. Cost should never prohibit student participation. Financial Assistance is available for those in need. Requests for financial assistance should be made directly to the Band Director prior to the due date for the related fee. Contact me for more information.

School-owned Instrument Rental
A contract must be completed for each school-owned instrument a student uses at any point during the school year (including marching band season). If your student is using or needs to use a school-owned instrument, please complete the contract electronically attached to this Parent Square message. Alternatively, a hard copy of the contract can be downloaded here and either electronically or physically returned to Mr. Witkowski.
