Dear Band Families,

Hello from Marching Band camp at Mercersburg Academy!  For Marching Band families, this is your note to let you know that everything is going well.  The students are working hard to get ready for this year’s show!  For all band families, please review the information below for upcoming volunteer needs, uniform needs, and important date reminders.

TL;DR:

  • Now:  Assistance request for prop storage
  • Reminder:  Uniform pieces needed for Concert Bands and Marching Band
  • Aug 12 – 15:  Assistance request for Marching Band uniform fittings
  • September 6:  First home football game Marching Band performance
  • September 14:  All students participate in Band Day

Now: Help needed with prop storage and equipment repairs

Our tree props from last year’s Marching Band show need a temporary home because we need the school storage space for the props being built for this year’s show.  If you have space to offer, please let us know.  We can solicit assistance to help move them.  Please send an email to volunteer@yorktownband.org, if you can assist.

Uniform pieces needed for Concert Bands and Marching Band

Want to get a head start by purchasing band uniform items now?  Here’s what your student will need, if they don’t have them already:

Marching Band:  Long black socks.  Other uniform needs, such as Y-Band uniforms (worn underneath the marching uniform) and marching shoes (MTXs) will be purchased/provided through Mr. Witkowski.
Concert Bands:  Students who wear tuxedos in Concert Band and Wind Ensemble need long black socks, black dress shoes, tuxedo shirt, and black bowtie.  Students who wear dresses need black dress shoes.

Aug 12 – 15:  Assistance needed for Marching Band uniforms

The Marching Band needs help with being fitted for their uniforms.  Measurements were completed, but now we need to make sure each piece fits properly so they look great on the field!  No experience is necessary!  We will need 7 volunteers each night during rehearsals (Aug 12-15), with arrival at 5:30 p.m. to receive instructions.  Please save the dates and keep an eye out for the Sign-up Genius!

September 6:  First home football game

With football season kicking off (pun intended!), we will need parent volunteers at the games to assist with things like prop movements, carrying the first-aid kit, working concessions, etc.  Save the date and keep an eye out for the Sign-up Genius!  If you are unable to volunteer, please consider supporting the band and the football team by filling the stands.

September 14:  Band Day fundraiser

On September 14th, ALL band students participate in Band Day, our biggest fundraiser of the year!  The quality of the band program depends greatly on the generosity of our community, so the students will walk through designated neighborhoods to talk about the program and ask for donations.  Please consider signing up to assist as a driver and/or to bring breakfast food for the students that morning.  Keep an eye out for the Sign-up Genius!

Show off your Yorktown HS band pride – check out our online store!  Order fulfillment takes several weeks, so order now to be ready for the school year!  Go Band!!
