Dear Band Families,
Thank you to all the parents and students who participated in Band Day! Your efforts raised over $15k for the program! We hope that friends and neighbors will continue donating throughout the year, but this was a great start. The donations will be used for various band program resources, such as clinicians, instrument repairs, and participation in competitions. Thank you to Angela Huskey and her team of volunteers for coordinating the fundraiser and breakfast!

September 21: Help needed – Away game at Washington-Liberty HS
Students will perform music in the stands during the away game at Washington-Liberty HS on Saturday, September 21st. We still need one more parent volunteer to ride the bus to/from Washington-Liberty HS and to be in charge of the First-Aid kits. Please sign up here.
Students should wear their Y-Band shirt and jeans or shorts. Report time to Yorktown is 11:45a.
September 25 and future: Help needed – Marching Band props for stadium rehearsals
We are gearing up to start bringing the full Marching Band show to the field, which means props will start to be incorporated into the rehearsals. Rehearsals are already long, and the students have other equipment and clean-up responsibilities, so it would be great if you could spare 30 minutes of your time before or after rehearsal to help construct and move the props to and from the field. No experience necessary! Please sign up here if you can help.
September 28: Help needed – Marching Band competition at Herndon HS
Please view the competition schedule here. We need several parent volunteers for things like riding the bus and bringing the First-Aid kits, helping load/unload trucks, moving props and other equipment, etc. Any parents assigned to props and equipment during the competition will get in for free! Please sign up here to help.
October 4: Help needed – Morning props building and homecoming game volunteers needed
Looking for a great way to help before you even log on for the work day? Please consider volunteering to help construct props at Yorktown High School during the mornings of home games, starting with the homecoming game on October 4th. No experience necessary! Prop building extraordinaire, Jane Pair, will be there to lead the work. Please sign up here.
Starting with the homecoming game, we will be using show props at the games and will need additional parent volunteers to help move the props and other equipment on/off the field during halftime. Please sign up here.
Before October 5: Puzzle donations needed for fundraiser
Rebecca Vandall, our Restaurant Night Co-Chair, will be hosting a table at the Civitans Garage Sale in October to sell puzzles, with all proceeds benefiting the band program. If you have any used or new puzzles to donate, please drop them off at Rebecca’s front porch at 5120 19th Rd, N, Arlington, or text her at 202-271-8850 to arrange a pick-up. The Civitans Garage Sale will take place on October 5th, from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Washington-Liberty parking garage.
Before October 15: Time/service donation request – tax preparation for the Band Boosters
Do you prepare taxes professionally? Are you looking for a great way to help out the band program? We are looking for someone willing to donate time/service in preparing the tax return for the Band Booters, a 501(c)(3) organization. If you can help, please send an email to ybb.treasurer@gmail.com.
October 16: Restaurant Night at Lebanese Taverna
We all know weeknights can be busy with trying to get through traffic and getting students to/from after school activities, so why not take the night off from cooking and dine out at Lebanese Taverna?! At the Westover and Market locations, Lebanese Taverna will donate 20% of the bill to the Yorktown Band. The offer is valid throughout the day with online food, online gift card purchase, catering, and take-out orders. It is not applied on Door Dash ordering. Please share this flyer with friends, family, and neighbors through email and social media!
October 23: Band parent social at Westover Beer Garden
We’re all friends here 🙂 Come hang out with other band parents at the Westover Beer Garden on October 23rd, between 5:00-7:00p, and get to know each other a little better. There will be Band Booster volunteers in attendance, if you want to ask any questions about the program in a more informal setting. Don’t have questions? That’s OK – come relax over a cold beverage! We hope to see you there!
Request: Large plastic bins to loan to Marching Band for the season
In support of this year’s Marching Band show, we will need 4-5 large plastic bins (think of the kind you use to store your holiday decorations). If you have any that you can loan for the Marching Band season (ends first week of November), please bring the bins to the band room.
We’re looking forward to seeing you all at the away football game tomorrow – come fill the stands for Yorktown!
