Dear Band Families,

Despite all the rain, our spirits aren’t dampened as we get pumped for the first Marching Band competition performance tomorrow at Herndon High School!  Please come out to support the Marching Band, performance time 12:45p, by filling the stands at Herndon HS (700 Bennett St, Herndon VA).

September 28:  Help needed – Marching Band competition at Herndon HS and props construction after competition

Please view the competition schedule here.  Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to volunteer!  We need two more parents who are willing to help us unload/load and move equipment onsite at the competition.  Please sign up here to help.  You’ll get in for free!

After we return to YHS from the competition, students and parents are invited to stick around to help construct pieces of the temporary props solution.  Please consider volunteering your time!  Additionally, if you have heavy duty scissors and/or a chalk line, please bring them with you to assist with the construction.

Student reminder:  Don’t forget your water bottles!  In case there’s time for concessions, you may want to bring a small amount of cash with you for snacks.

September 30 and future:  Help needed – Marching Band props for stadium rehearsals

We are gearing up to start bringing the full Marching Band show to the field, which means props will start to be incorporated into the rehearsals.  Rehearsals are already long, and the students have other equipment and clean-up responsibilities, so it would be great if you could spare 30 minutes of your time before or after rehearsal to help construct and move the props to and from the field.  No experience necessary!  Please sign up here if you can help.

October 4:  Help needed – Morning props building and homecoming game volunteers needed

Looking for a great way to help before you even log on for the work day?  Please consider volunteering to help construct props at Yorktown High School during the mornings of home games, starting with the homecoming game on October 4th.  No experience necessary!  Prop building extraordinaire, Jane Pair, will be there to lead the work.  Please sign up here.

Starting with the homecoming game, we will be using show props at the games and will need additional parent volunteers to help move the props and other equipment on/off the field during halftime.  Please sign up here.

Before October 5:  Puzzle donations for fundraiser

Thank you to everyone who very generously donated puzzles for the fundraiser!  Please encourage family and neighbors to come to the Civitans Garage Sale on Saturday, October 5, to buy one!  For those still wanting to donate puzzles, please drop them off at Rebecca Vandall’s front porch, by Thursday, October 3, at 5120 19th Rd, N, Arlington, or text her at 202-271-8850 to arrange a pick-up.

The Civitans Garage Sale will take place from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM, at the Washington-Liberty parking garage.  All proceeds will be donated for the band program.

October 16:  Restaurant Night at Lebanese Taverna

We all know weeknights can be busy with trying to get through traffic and getting students to/from after school activities, so why not take the night off from cooking and dine out at Lebanese Taverna?!  At the Westover and Market locations, Lebanese Taverna will donate 20% of the bill to the Yorktown Band.  The offer is valid throughout the day with online food, online gift card purchase, catering, and take-out orders.  It is not applied on Door Dash ordering.  Please share this flyer with friends, family, and neighbors through email and social media!

October 23:  Band parent social at Westover Beer Garden

We’re all friends here  🙂  Come hang out with other band parents at the Westover Beer Garden on October 23rd, between 5:00-7:00p, and get to know each other a little better.  There will be Band Booster volunteers in attendance, if you want to ask any questions about the program in a more informal setting.  Don’t have questions?  That’s OK – come relax over a cold beverage!  We hope to see you there!

Request:  Large plastic bins to loan to Marching Band for the season

In support of this year’s Marching Band show, we will need 4-5 large plastic bins (think of the kind you use to store your holiday decorations).  If you have any that you can loan for the Marching Band season (ends first week of November), please bring the bins to the band room.

We hope to see many of you the competition tomorrow!  Go Band!!
