What a week we had!  Congratulations to the Marching Band for taking third place in the USBands Marine Corps Invitational!  It was also exciting to see how many middle school students are interested in joining the Marching Band/Color Guard during Rising Patriots/Spin-with-the-Patriots Night.  Thank you to the many volunteers who made those events a success!  We were also able to put the full show with props and outfit change on the field!  If you haven’t been able to see the show, we hope you can make it to one of the last four opportunities in the next couple of weeks.

Next up, we have the Oakton Classic competition for Marching Band, and we start getting ready for concert season with tuxedo and dress fittings over the next two weeks.  We still have a lot of volunteer needs, so please consider signing up to help.  Amid all this hard work, remember to take a break from cooking on October 16th; support the whole band program by eating out at Lebanese Taverna!

 TL;DR:

  • October 16 and future:  Help needed – Marching Band props for stadium rehearsals
  • October 16:  Restaurant Night at Lebanese Taverna
  • October 16 – 25:  Help Needed – Concert attire fittings volunteers
  • October 19:  Help needed – Marching Band performance at Oakton Classic
  • October 21: Arlington Indoor Percussion interest meeting – Band room 6pm
  • October 23:  Band Parent Social at Westover Beer Garden

  • October 26:  Help needed – Double event!  Marching Band competition at Liberty HS and assessment at Freedom HS

October 16 and future:  Marching Band props for stadium rehearsals

The full Marching Band show is on the field, which means props are being used during rehearsals.  Rehearsals are already long, and the students have other equipment and clean-up responsibilities, so it would be great if you could spare 30 minutes of your time before or after rehearsal to help construct and move the props to and from the field.  No experience necessary!  Please sign up here if you can help.

October 16:  Restaurant Night at Lebanese Taverna

We all know weeknights can be busy with trying to get through traffic and getting students to/from after school activities, so why not take the night off from cooking and dine out at Lebanese Taverna?!  At the Westover and Market locations, Lebanese Taverna will donate 20% of the bill to the Yorktown Band.  The offer is valid throughout the day with online food, online gift card purchase, catering, and take-out orders.  It is not applied on Door Dash ordering.  Please share this flyer with friends, family, and neighbors through email and social media!

October 16 – 25:  Help Needed – Concert attire fittings

Before you know it, it will be concert season!  We need help fitting the concert and wind ensemble students for their concert attire (dresses and tuxedos).  No experience necessary!  Please sign up here to help.

October 19:  Marching Band performance at Oakton Classic

We are excited to take the Marching Band show, Let it Be, to the Oakton Classic!  See the schedule here.  Parent volunteers, you will receive an email with some additional reporting/schedule information.  Student report time is 9:45a.  Please sign up here to help.

Marching Band members:  Please pack water bottles, snacks, and sunblock!  You also need to pack lunch and snacks for the day.  Make sure you have your appropriate under uniform pieces (for marchers, this is your Y-Band uniform, long socks, and MTXs) in addition to the rest of your uniform.

October 23:  Band parent social at Westover Beer Garden

We’re all friends here  🙂  Come hang out with other band parents at the Westover Beer Garden on October 23rd, between 5:00-7:00p, and get to know each other a little better.  There will be Band Booster volunteers in attendance, if you want to ask any questions about the program in a more informal setting.  Don’t have questions?  That’s OK – come relax over a cold beverage!  We hope to see you there!

October 24:  Help needed – APS Marching Band Showcase
