Dear Band Families,

It was great to see the folks who were able to attend our brainstorming session on Tuesday. We’ll continue to switch up our meeting formats to find a balance of what works best and welcome any feedback to president@yorktownband.org. As the end of the Marching Band season approaches, we want to thank you for all of your support and for the final push to help the YMB finish strong!

Competition on Saturday

On Saturday, our Marching Patriots will head to South Riding for our final VMBC competition of the season – Freedom Showcase. The schedule of events for YHS was sent out by Mr. Witkowski (note that it IS for 2023). Come support the kids and/or join us behind the scenes. We’re still looking for a few folks on-site to help with props as well as some truck unloaders back at YHS at approximately 7pm. Sign up to help

Arlington Marching Showcase

Next week, we’ll join Washington-Liberty and Wakefield High Schools for the Arlington Marching Showcase on Wednesday night, Oct 25. This fabulous event has all three schools presenting field shows as well as bands from each middle school in the stands showing off their stand tune skills. It’s a great community event as well as a way to showcase marching band to future students (and show off to old friends at different schools). It’s also the best opportunity to see “Red” locally without the noisy, football-game atmosphere. We have MANY volunteer slots available. Note that it is possible with this event to sign up for bus rider and props slots simultaneously as we’ll be able to cover the students when you move to the field duties. Sign up to help

Assessment – Your Last Chance to see “Red” in Competition Format

The final competition atmosphere performance of “Red” by the Yorktown Marching Band will be at the VBODA Assessment on Saturday, October 28. This competition-like atmosphere requires our full cadre of volunteers to make sure the students look their best and get those high “effect” scores. Sign up to help

Senior Night

Senior Night for the Class of 2024 band members and their families will take place at the last home football game, November 3.  We are looking for a few parents to help with set-up (3:30 pm – 5:00 pm), clean-up (6:00-7:00 pm), and baking.  Please contact Susie Wallin to volunteer or for more details.  Let’s make this a special occasion for our seniors and their parents.

Volunteer Spotlight – Restaurant Fundraising*

* A new rotating feature highlighting one of our wonderful volunteers

The restaurant fundraising coordinator works with local businesses to arrange restaurant fundraising nights for the band. This vital position helps raise much-needed funds for clinicians, transportation costs, and spring trip financial assistance. The coordinator sets up one fundraiser per month – either by contacting the restaurant directly or by using a platform such as GroupRaise to schedule. The coordinator works with booster communicators to spread the word, and then collects the funds raised to pass along to our treasurer.

Current Coordinator: Bethany Hardy (senior parent)

Total Time Commitment: A few hours per month throughout the school year.

Interaction with Students: None

Interested? Contact us to find out what’s involved, shadow along for a month, or assist the current coordinator.

Thank you for supporting your musicians and go band!
