Dear Band Families,
This week’s email looks a lot like last week’s because we are still seeking help! In particular, please consider volunteering to load/unload trucks at YHS before and after band camp, or share some of your time to help measure students for their Marching Band uniforms. No experience is required for any of these volunteer activities, and both are great ways to support the band and meet other band families!

Marching Band camp packing list
Remember that band camp takes place away from home and usual personal items, so please check out the packing list to make sure your student is well prepared. If you have any questions about band camp, please visit the band camp website or send an email to bandcamp@yorktownband.org. Students should be doing regular physical activity (especially walking!) to get ready.
Now: Help needed with prop storage and equipment repairs
A great way to help, and with a small time commitment, is equipment repairs. There are issues with the wheels on the frames of some of our keyboard percussion instruments. If you have experience with fixing or replacing wheel assemblies, we would appreciate your help. Also, our tree props from last year’s Marching Band show need a temporary home because we need the school storage space for the props being built for this year’s show. If you have space to offer, please let us know. We can solicit assistance to help move them. Please send an email to volunteer@yorktownband.org, if you can assist with either props storage or equipment repairs.
July 30 – Aug 1: Marching Band uniform measurements
Help us make sure our musicians look great for football games and competitions! We are looking for three volunteers for each night of pre-camp rehearsals. No experience is necessary; instructions will be provided. It’s a great way to provide a lot of help in a short amount of time, as well as to meet a lot of the band students and other volunteers. Aug 2 – 4: VA tax holiday
On August 2 – 4, Virginia will have its tax holiday. It’s the perfect time to stock up on last minute items for Marching Band camp and other band ensemble essentials – things like white t-shirts, black socks, tennis shoes, etc. Follow this link for more information about the tax holiday.
Aug 4 and 9: Equipment loading and unloading at YHS
The Marching Band needs help with loading equipment onto trucks (Aug 4 @ 9:30 a.m.) and unloading the equipment from trucks (Aug 9 @ 3:30 p.m.). This is a very short time commitment, but it is a wonderful way to help out! Please sign up here.
