I hope you can join us Tuesday evening to see the last run of the indoor shows at the Arlington Indoor Showcase. The Winterguards from Wakefield HS, Washington-Liberty HS, and Yorktown HS will perform as well as Arlington Indoor Percussion. The showcase will be in the main gym at Yorktown starting at 5:30 and will run about an hour and 15 minutes.

Many great accomplishments have been achieved by the students of the Yorktown Bands since my last update. Please join me in congratulating our hard-working students.

  • Jazz Band hosted a terrific concert and participated in a side-by-side rehearsal with the US Army Blues Jazz Ensemble as well as the Phoenix Foundation, visiting from Germany.
  • Concert Band earned an overall Superior rating at Arlington Assessment on March 13.
  • Wind Ensemble earned straight Superior ratings at VMEA/VBODA District 12 Assessment on March 16.
    1. This, paired with superior ratings earned by the Yorktown Chamber Orchestra and Yorktown Singers, earns YHS the Blue Ribbon award from VMEA. This is the fourth time in school history and third year in a row that Yorktown has received this distinction.
  • Arlington Indoor Percussion placed 2nd on March 23 at the South County Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA) Competition. This was their first competition after being promoted to Open Class.
  • YHS Performing Arts department put on a sensational run of Les Misérables: School Edition this past weekend. Many band members were members of the cast, crew, and/or pit orchestra.
  • Yorktown Winterguard placed 2nd in the Colorguard Scholastic A3 Blue Round division and thus won a silver medal at AIA North Championships on Saturday in Hampton, Virginia.
  • Arlington Indoor Percussion placed 4th, just off the podium, in the Percussion Open Class at AIA North Championships on Saturday in Hampton, Virginia.
